Silicone Compression Moulding Processes (Compression and Transfer Molding)

Compression Moulding processes are used in a wide range of applications. Here, solid silicone rubber gets vulcanized in moulds with the aid of heat and pressure. For solid silicone rubber, Compression and Transfer Molding suggest themselves as main methods.
Für das Compression Molding eignen sich peroxidisch vernetzende und platinkatalysierte Festsiliconkautschuktypen. Jedes Formnest wird einzeln mit einer exakt abgewogenen Menge Kautschuk befüllt.

The pannel presses are mostly operated hydraulically, while heated e.g. electrically or with the aid of steam. For the vulcanization of peroxid blends and for platinum catalyzed solid silicone rubber, a mould temperature around 150-200° is mostly selected.

The temperature plays an important role: It should be as high as possible to shorten the vulcanization period, and thus the total cycle period, however it must not be too high either, as otherwise a premature scorch can occur. The vulcanization time is determined by material temperature, tool temperature and the depth of the molded parts.
